If your video’s auto-generated captions fail to appear or are in an incorrect language, this may be due to settings in either your ZenVideo account or the source video. Check your video for the possible causes discussed in this article before re-uploading or replacing the video.
What is causing the Auto CC to fail?
These are the most common reasons Auto CC will not appear on videos, along with what to check for to fix the issue in the video file.
- Incorrect Account-level language setting: Check the language that is set in your Account Settings under Viewing Preferences. Auto CC will only generate in the language your account is set to.
- Audio is missing or difficult to hear: Check if the audio is present and clear in your source video file.

Multiple audio channels in the video file: If there are large gaps in the transcript, be sure to check that the video doesn’t have multiple audio channels by using editing software such as Adobe Premiere.
- If so, try condensing the multiple audio channels into one and re-exporting the video.
- Language detection failed: Check if there is spoken word within the first 30 seconds in the desired language. The language detection uses the first 30 seconds of the video to determine the set language.
How to solve Auto CC failing
If you’ve identified one of the above as the cause of your Auto CC failing, adjust your video or settings as needed, then replace or re-upload your video to allow the captions to regenerate.
