Folder-specific permissions
The layered folder permission system ensures that access is consistently managed across different levels of the account.
Admins and Owners can grant their team members the following permissions based on their role and resource type:
Role | Resource Permission Scopes | Notes |
Owner |
Folder: Can manage Video: Can manage Events: Can manage Showcases: Can manage |
Owners can only be assigned can manage. |
Admin |
Folder: Can manage Video: can manage Events: Can manage Showcases: Can manage |
Admins can only be assigned can manage. |
Contributor/Contributor+ |
Folder: Can manage, Can edit, Can view, Can comment Video: Can edit, Can view, Can comment Event: Can edit, Can view Showcase: Can edit, Can view |
Contributors can never be assigned can manage on a video. If you add a Contributor to a folder that has subfolders, the team member will also have the permission to access the contents of the subfolders. |
Viewer |
Folder: Can view, Can comment Video: Can view, Can comment Event: Can view Showcases: Can view |
Viewers can be assigned can view or can comment. |
Uploader |
Folder: n/a Video: n/a |
Uploaders cannot be granted access to resources. They can only view public and unlisted videos. |
Groups |
Folder: Can view, can comment, can edit Video: Can view, can comment, can edit |
Applies to SSO groups and the ‘All group’ for Enterprise teams. |
How to change a team member’s folder permissions
To change a team member’s access, follow these steps:
- From the Library, select the folder.
- Open the folder share modal in the upper right section of the folder page.
- Either type in a new team member's name and set their permission, then click Send invite, or...
- Alternatively, find an existing team member in the folder and click their role to open the dropdown menu and select the appropriate permission. The role change will save automatically.
‘Can manage’ folder permission
Changing a team member's permissions from 'Can edit' to 'Can manage' will grant the team member permission to delete any videos within the folder from the team account, as well as permission to invite other team members to the folder.
A Contributor (Can edit) can be assigned to the 'Can manage' role in the main folder or in a subfolder. When a Contributor is assigned the 'Can manage' role in a top-level folder, they will also have admin permissions in all of the subfolders that live within that folder and can create new subfolders. But when a Contributor is assigned the 'Can manage' role in a subfolder, they will only have admin permissions in that particular subfolder. Members with 'Can manage' access will have access to creating and deleting subfolders.
